Name: Bonnie

Surname: Bland

Counties: Unknown

I am trying to find the birth place of my Great-great-grandfather, General (this is his first name) Vanranselaer (not sure if this is the correct spelling as I've seen it spelled many ways) Bland.

His Record of Death & all census that I have say he was born in Ky.......I have his Record of Marriage.....to Elizabeth Ann Bland January 6, 1847 in Jefferson Co., Ky. I have a birthdate (I'm not sure of) May 28, 1827.

General Vanranselaer Bland

Born May 28, 1827 in ?, Ky.

Died Dec.  5, 1904 in Mendon, St. Joseph, Michigan

Married Elizabeth Ann Bland Jan. 6, 1847 in Jefferson Co., Ky.

I have traced him from Ky. to Posey Twp. Washington Co., Ind. where he bought land.

Also in the Ind. property papers I have it shows a American Bland buying land 10 yrs. before General. Generals' land is right next to Americas' as well as a Matilda Bland....her name is on the Record of Marriage as Mother to both General & Elizabeth....???? raises a lot of questions.

Name: George W. Alexander

Surname: Wilson

Counties: Daviess, Jefferson

Seeking information on Jesse and Juli Wilson owned by John Todd estate. Jesse purchased July and their six children from the Todd estate in Daviess county in 1861 and moved to Louisville rather than to Liberia as the court and Colonization Society expected. They are my father's maternal grandparents. I'm interested in knowing about their parents, were they were employed as slaves and who was John Todd. My assumption is they or their parents were originally in or near Harrodsburg and moved to Owensboro with who ever managed John Todd's estate.

Thank you

Name: Dyrena Darrett-Anthony

Surname: Darrett

Counties: Daviess

My surname is DARRETT.  My ancestors were born and raised in Daviess County KY.  In the 1880 census they are listed as Darick.  Any information about Abraham, Margaret and their children, James, John Charles, Frank, Chester, Annie, Emma, Mary and Nancy would be greatly appreciated.  Family stories told say that there was a big argument between Abraham and a white man.
They (white people) burned down Abraham's house and killed him.  The rest of the family made it across the river to Evansville, Indiana, where each generation has been since around 1900.  Again...any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks, Dyrena Darrett-Anthony

Name:
Robert Claxton Day
Surname: Winston

Counties Researching: Bourbon

My name is Robert Claxton Day (Dickerson). My people come from the Bourbon County area, home base being Brentsville about 3 miles north of Paris in Kentucky. My earliest maternal ancestors are Garland and Rose Johnston Winston circa 1820. Their son Daniel Winston( 1846-1924) was my great grandfather. Two of his daughters married Porters, and their descendants are still living in the Paris and Lexington areas. In fact on August 14 of this year, I gave a family history presentation at our reunion in Paris. I have some documentation (i.e marriage bonds, death certificates, wills and some pictures). For a few years now, I have been unable to break through that brickwall that prevents me from unlocking the slave issue. The "griots" in my family said that Daniel was a slave who changed his name to Winston from the slavemaster's name of Vinson.

My paternal ancestors were named Dickerson and Stout from the same area. I have some information on them, but not as much as the maternal side.

Anything that you can help me with would be most appreciated and anything that I have that can be contributed to help just let me know.

Name:   Paige Commodore
Surname: Commodore

Counties Researching: Mason (Mayslick and Maysville)

I am looking for any descendants of the COMMODORE family. We have a little information that dates back to approximately 1870, but nothing before then.  I originally thought our family began here, but according to the 1880 census, I think I'm wrong.  Maysville, KENTUCKY was the end of the slavery side on the Underground Railroad in North Central KENTUCKY.  It's just across the river from Ripley, OHIO.  I'm unsure if our family was here before or after slavery.  I am so anxious to contact any and all persons who may be related to me.  I have a cousin who was able to do some research and her information states that our GGrandparents were John and Delia COMMODORE and they had approximately seven children.  Our grandparents were Lewis and Bertha PAYNE COMMODORE. If you have any information that will be able to assist us in our search it would be greatly appreciated.  Also, all most every COMMODORE listed in the 1880 census was listed as Black.  There were a few Mulattos and very few White; however, in the search of our surname we have found that the name COMMODORE is English.

I am looking for information on Stephen REED and his wife Nancy Powell. Both were born in KENTUCKY per the 1880 Federal Census but were both living in Michigan at the time of that census. Name:   Betty Alexander
Surname: Standiford

Counties Researching: Mercer

My maternal Grandmother R.B. Reed told me that she had Great-Grandparents named Pompey and Susan Standiford, but I don't recall from which side of her family. This is what I have found to date:

MERCER SLAVE LIST: Pompey There is a "Pompey" listed as "free colored person" in Mercer County, 1840.

MERCER 1850 CENSUS:

Pompey Standiford  b.1776  in Pennsylvania

Susan Standiford     b.1777  in North Carolina

BRICK WALL: NEED TO FIND CHILDREN OF POMPEY AND SUSAN IN ORDER TO MAKE THE CONNECTION. ONE OF THEIR DAUGHTERS MUST BE THE CONNECTION.

I AM WORKING ON THE ASSUMPTION THAT IT MIGHT BE GARRET REED'S MOTHER'S PARENTS.

Date:   Mon Aug 23 08:18:07 2004
Name:   Vicki Gelfo
Surnames: Tolliver, Tolbert

Counties Researching: Jefferson

I am looking for the family of Jesse Tolliver b. July 20, 1907, probably in/near Louisville.  I find him in the 1920 census as a 12 y/o residing at the Louisville Industrial School of Reform.  (According to family members, he had been placed there by his father after the death of his mother, when he was about 9). I have been told by Jesse's granddaughter  that she had heard at one time that the family name "used to be Talbert/Tolbert/Talbott" and while I can't locate a Jesse Tolliver in the 1910 Census I do find a Jesse Tolbert, age 2,  son of David Tolbert 48 and Susan 36 in Fisherville. Both David and Susan are enumerated as having been born in KY. Unfortunately, I can't find David  in any other census.  If the age given in the 1910 census is correct, he would have been born approx. 1861, so it's quite possible he was born in slavery.  I have absolutely no idea when or where he died, and I can't find a death record for a Susan Tolbert between 1907 and 1920.
Does anyone have any ideas where I should look next?

Date:   Tue Jul 27 05:05:02 2004
Name:  Khairah
Surname: Harris

Angeline Harris lived in Hartford, Kentucky, Ohio county in 1870.  Perhaps her DOB is 1834-1835.  The census of the same year lists her children as Mathew, Arther, Even, Sanford, Annis (or Veniece), and Delia (or Lelar,Lelia).  They were also listed as white.  Maybe they were "passing" since the children and their mother both were products of owner/slave relationships.  Perhaps Mathew and Arther worked as RR (railroad?) hands? The census of 1880 for Owensboro, Kentucky, Daviess county lists the family as Mulatto.  Her children in the household are as follows: Arther, Hugh, Sanford, Annis and Delia.  My GGGrandfather is Charles who I believe to be of the same family from subsequent correspondence.  Any of these names sound familiar please respond at my e-mail.
