Barren Co. Bible Records

According to the family Bible of George Washington Slemmons (white), who married Betsy Crenshaw in 1812.  The Bible was in the possession of Mrs. Walter Browning, a great-great niece of Washington Slemmons. In the family Bible is recorded the following.

 

Kisey Slemmons (black woman) was Asher Slemmon’s slave. Her children were:

 

1.        Jefferson Slemmons, born February 1848

2.        Mary W. Slemmons, born 7 April 1851

3.        Davis F Slemmons, born 15 June 1853

4.        Marthy W. Slemmons, born 29 June 1855

5.        Henry Slemmons born 19 July 1858

6.        Overton Slemmons, born 11 Feb 1860

7.        Charles Slemmons, born 14 Sept 1861.

Woman Eliza was born September 1838

Her first child Martha Frances was born January 24, 1859

Her second child Mariah Catherine was born August 2, 1860

Her third child, James Preston was born April 8, 1862

Her fourth child, William Right was born May 3, 1863

Her fifth child was born January 26, 1865. Her name was Amanda Elizabeth

Her sixth child, Leathy Jane was born July 16th 1868.

Cageniel Alexander Huffman (seventh child) was born July 2, 1869.

 

Hulet Huffman and Eliza (the black woman) were married December 26, 1853.
