The two counties may be explained by the formation of the new county of Shelby. The family may not have moved. I realize this is sketchy information but I have hit a brick wall. William married Elizabeth CASE born 20 Feb 1805 in Whiteriver, Daviess, Indiana the daughter of Abraham CASE and Sarah HOGUE. The Shelby County Census of 1820 shows George Milam with two sons born 1794-1802 one is probably William; two sons born 1802-1804; two sons born 1804-1810 and one son and three daughters born 1810-1820. The IGI '94 shows an Elija MILAM having a family 1838-1856 and could possibly be a brother. I am seeking bible records or any type of info on parents and siblings to William and the gang. Thomas and Elizabeth Tucker moved to then-Shelby County in 1809, bought property on the dividing ridge between Elk Creek and Little Plum Creek. Donated land for the old Elk Creek Baptist Church and cemetery. Thomas died in 1848, Elizabeth in 1864. They are buried in an old cemetery in Dead Man's Curve near Taylorsville. Additional children were Alexander Finney, Andrew Finney, Jane Finney, and Thomas Finney. Margaret, her children, and their families moved to Gibson County, Indiana in 1819. These families also had connetions to Harrison, Shelby, Hardin, Hancock and Breckenridge Counties.

CARRISS was John JONES's guardian. John and America JONES later moved to Jefferson county and then to Ohio County, Kentucky where John JONES died July 21, 1884. He is buried in the Fordsville, Kentucky cemetery. QRYTEXT:My gg-grandparents, James ALLEN and Elizabeth LOGAN, were married in Rockbridge County, VA, in 1801 and migrated that same year to Shelby County, KY, about 30 miles east of Louisville near the Ohio River. An old handwritten document states they traveled with Alexander LOGAN and Jane MCCAMPBELL and James McCampbell and Margaret LOGAN. They arrived by water above The Falls of the Ohio (Louisville) and traveled the short distance to the Shelby County area to join those who had migrated from Rockbridge County (through the Cumberland Gap) by land. James McCampbell and Margaret Logan remained near the landing site and eventually settled across the Ohio River near Charles Town. Would anybody suggest the most likely migration route they would have taken in 1801 from Rockbridge County to a point on the Ohio River?

William S(amuel) Walker was also in Shelby County as a young lad with his mother Jane Burton WALKER and his siblings Ann, Sarah who married Alexander MCCORMICK, and Thomas Burton WALKER who married Nancy WOODRUFF. Jane Burton Walker's brother Prettyman Burton had guardianship of the 4 children of his sister Jane when she passed away in or around 1816. Jane was widowed in 1806 and when she moved to Shelby County with her 4 young children in 1810, she remarried in 1811 to Nathaniel HANKINS. When did Jane die - actual/prox date, where is she buried. Did she have children of the 2nd marriage. Nothing is known of Jane or of her death except that Thomas, the youngest, said he was 9 years old when his mother died. QRYTEXT:I am looking for information on the NICHOLS families of Shelby and surrounding counties in Kentucky. My ancestor, Francis Marion NICHOLS, states on his Union Cavalry Muster Roles to have been born Oct 1835 in Shelby Co., KY. He was in the 1850 census of Saline Co., Missouri with his widowed mother, Mary A. NICHOLS and his brother Richard Epperson NICHOLS (born 1836). I have already done a significant amount of research on the Nichols families of north central Kentucky and come up with very little. A Mary A. NICHOLS purchases 53 acres in 1838 in Shelby Co., KY and sells it a few months later. I have found a Frances Nichols on an Orphans Court Docket in 1839, but it is a female (daughter of Abram NICHOLS, deceased). A marriage record was found for an Elijah M. NICHOLS to a Mary Ann OVERSTREET (daughter of Gabriel OVERSTREET, deceased) dated 8 Aug 1834 in Jefferson Co., KY and the 1840 census of Jefferson Co., KY shows an E. Nichols with 2 children under five, but both are listed as females (I have wondered if the census taker may have made a mistake since my ancestor went by Francis and his brother was sometimes called &quot;Eppy&quot;). There is a William NICHOLS who dies in Shelby Co., KY in 1833--a deed partition dated April 1842 lists the following heirs: William NICHOLS, Eliza WATKINS (widow of William who had remarried), Joseph NICHOLS, Samuel NICHOLS, William J. NICHOLS (William Sr. is known to have been married twice and had sons named William from each marriage), Andrew NICHOLS, Richmond NICHOLS, Squire NICHOLS, and Edwin NICHOLS (a minor at the time of the deed partition and had William Nichols as a guardian). My ancestor, Francis Marion Nichols, had sons named William, Joseph, and Edwin--therefore, I have wondered if my ancestor was somehow connected to the William Nichols of Shelby Co., KY who dies in 1833, but I have had no luck. If anyone has any information that could help me in my search, I would be greatly appreciative.

He was listed as one of the early pioneers of that area.

QRYTEXT:I am researching the following families of Shelby co. HICKS, DILLON,CAMPBELL.Thomas HICKS m. Elizabeth MARRAL in Va. and moved his family to Ky. between 1795-8 as his youngest son Moral was born in Ky.His children were John,Samuel,William,James,Jesse Robert and Moral.John and Samuel were married in Jessamine while the rest were married in Shelby co.Samuel married Nancy DILLON d/o Thomas DILLON. Samuel moved his family to Hickman co. Ky. I have much on this family and little on the others would like to exch. data.Samuel also married Susan WALTERS GILMAN between the two women he had 19 children.I am descended from him and Nancy's son John who married Margaritte A. SUTTON in prob. Jessamine co. and then Hettie Esther CAMPBELL in Jefferson co. Hettie was the d/o John who I believe was from Jessamine co. he died in the late 1840's Hickman co.Would appreciate any help on this line.Will be glad to exch. any data.

QRYTEXT:Sumbitted May 2, 1997 Brenda (OLIVER) YOUNG I have been researching my OLIVER line in Kentucky. My oldest known ancestor was John D. OLIVER b:1802 in Va., d: 1858 in Daviess Co., Ky. He married Mary A. (Polly) ESTES (dau. of: Littleton ESTES of Caroline Co., Va.) in Henry Co., Ky. in 1826. Mary A. (Polly) ESTES had been previously married to a James ROBERTS. A James OLIVER, possibly John D.'s brother, signed John D. OLIVER'S marriage bond. John D. and Mary moved to Daviess Co., Ky in 1830. He died there in 1858. I am trying to find out who John D. OLIVER'S parents were. I am not sure of his exact county of origin in Virginia, however, I suspicion it to be one of the Tidewater area counties. I am willing to exchange any information of mutual interest.
