in response to Re: YOUNG, BRYANT, posted by Mark BENNETT on Fri, 27 Feb 1998, at 9:25 a.m.
Hi Mark,
Could John, 1818 have had other children? I am seeking parents of
Burdine YOUNG, born abt 1843. He appears on the 1900 Pulaski
census and it is interesting to note he has a son named Nelson,
born abt 1893. Burdine had 3 wives. The first wife bore his son,
Robert, my great grandfather, born 1867, probably in Clinton Co.,
KY. and his mother (whoever she was) born in Pulaski Co.
In 1890 Pulaski Co., Burdine marries Minnie McWILLIAMS, but on
the 1900 census his wife is Nancy. His military papers say he was
born in Wayne Co., his marriage to Minnie says Fentress, TN. and
the marriage record of his son Robert reports him born in Clinton
Co., KY. Thus you can see I am not real sure where to look for
his parents! I would appreciate any info or suggestions on trying
to locate Burdine's parents.

I appreciate the opportunity to read your paper on the Baugh
(Bach) family. Several years ago I managed to get a copy of Henry
Baugh's will in which his children are listed. Not among them,
however, is my ancestor, Polly Baugh who was born about 1796 and
married James Walls in 1825. The fact that her name is not
mentioned could mean any number of things. She may not have been
a daughter of Henry. The question then becomes, if not Henry,
who? Have you seen her name in your research as being connected
to someone besides Henry. Thanks for your kind reply.

in response to BAUGH, WALLS, PADGETT, etc., posted by William J. Pennington on Sat, 16 May 1998
I should have listed POLLY BAUGH as a second arriage. I had seen
a marriage of JAMES WALLS to LAVINA (LEOGINA?) PADGETT
dau of JONA PADGETT in Lincoln Co. KY 7/28/1815 or 1818 and had
assummed this to be the same James who married POLLY BAUGH in
1825 in Pulaski Co. Pulaski being adjacent to Lincoln CO. I had
assumed that Lucinda Walls mother was Polly BAUGH but it didn't
work out as Lucinda was presummed born 4/27/1818 in Pulaski Co.
So I had come to the conclusion that James probably had an
earlier marriage. I do know that our GREEN UELL BOHANNON that
married LUCINDA WALLS had ran a ferry at Burnsides in Pulaski Co.
at one time and that they were married in Pulaski Co. ... Hal

Hi-I doubt if you can help me but noticed the Lowery name. My
ancestors were William and Sarah Lowery who were from NC possibly
Rowan Co. By 1810 they were in Warren Co Ky where William died
before 1820. We have never learned Sarah's maiden name, though
its possible it was Roland/Rowland. some researchers believe our
Lowery's were part Indian. There are many Cherokee's listed in
Starr's History by the name of Lowery. Several of William and
Sarah's children to Mo. mostly Laclede Co. Mo. thank you for

children were: John F. 1843, James H 1844, Sarah J. 1847, George
M. 1849, Joseph M. 1851, Francis 1853, Amanda 1855, Mary Ann
1857, Morgan 1857, (Lewis) Shelton 1864. Sarah J. Sellers married
Andrew James Childers on 13 Nov 1870 in Pulaski Co. I am up
against a block wall on Henry Sellers and Mary Ann Coffey. There
are not too many Sellers in Pulaski Co. so there might be a
connection. I think Henry had two brothers, Bailey and Stephen.
Can you provide any information, I would greatly appreciate it.

from the Pulaski County (KY) Historical Society located at the
Pulaski County Library. The date of the marraige was July 14,
1825. The paper is signed by James Walls and the father of the
bride (Henry Baugh) as they placed 50 pounds sterling as bond. I
do not have any record of either the bride or grooms having
either an earlier or later marriage. I mentioned earlied that
both died around 1849-50 and are buried together in the Tateville
Baptist Cemetery on old h'way 27 south of Somerset. The
gravestones have been demolished, but I was fortunate to get a

Hi Bonnie,
I am also researching the Childers family in Pulaski Co., KY.
According to other researchers, the children of John and Rhoda
Childers (Childris) are:
Hendon (Hiram) b. 1812
George W. b. 1817
James Franklin b. 1818
Mehulda b. 1821
Holbert b. 1823 (our ancestor)
Delila b. 1825
Susan Jane b. 1828
Emily b. 1831
The Pulaski Co. marriage books states Emaline Childers married
William Griffis, 15Dec1856 and Susanah Jane Childers married Wm.
B. Barnett, 8Jan1852. Could there be a connection between Martha
Mariah Barnett and William and Susanah Barnett? On the 1880
Pulaski Co., KY census there is a William and Emily Griffis with
8 children, including James F. age 8. On the 1879 Pulaski Co., KY
census there is a Willian and Emaline Griffis with 7 children.
Our Holbert Childers is also in Pulaski Co. He married #1 Eliza
Jane Jones 11Apr1849 in Pulaski Co. and #2 Mary Perry 26Jan1866
in Scott Co., TN. I have found Holbert on the 1850, 1860, 1870
and 1880 Pulaski Co., censuses. There are also other Childers in
the surrounding counties including Whitley, McCreary and Knox. I
have been trying to reconstruct the families in Pulaski county
and would be interested in sharing information.

who d 1829 was in the Revolution, served from sC. His wife

Hi Leisa,
I think Stephen Childers is the son of J. Alfred Childers (b1836)
and Milly Ann Perry (b1840), both born around Ashe Co., N.C.
According to the 1880 Whitley Co, KY census there is a S. E.
Childers, male, age 15 living with James A. and Milly A.
Childers. Other Childers researchers have S. E. as Stephen E.
Childers, age 20 who married Marinah Woodall, age 17 in Pulaski
Co., Kentucky on 1Jan1885. J. Alfred Childers is the son of John
Childers (b1791) and Elizabeth Smith. I also have Stephen
Childers and Marina Childers buried in the Woodall Cemetery in
Pulaski County. Our line of Childers comes from John Childers'
first wife, Rhoda. My husbands gggrandfather is Holbert Childers,
the son of John and Rhoda Childers. How does Stephen fit into
your lines?

where he married Miralda B. Todd on 4/16/1902. Then in the 1900
Pulaski County Census he is listed as Bil to a Mary E. Waddle. A
husband for Mary is not listed, but she has a son John T. born
11/81 and a daughter May B. born 2/84. Doc's birth date is 2/59
and Mary's is 7/54. I still have not found Doc's parents. Mary's

in Feb. 1842. A fire distroyed many of the county clerk's records
in 1934 and no copy of the marriage bond is available. Nor were
any records discovered indentifying Mary Ann's Paaretns. Henry
and Mary Ann produced nine children, six boys,John F., James H. ,
George W. Joseph M., Frances and Louis S. and three girls. Sarah,
Amnanda and Mary Ann.
Parents of Henry Sellers: John R. Sellers Born 1794 in
Rutherford. Co. North Carolina Died 1873/1879 in Pulaski (now
McCreary ) Co. Ky. He is believed to be the son of Levy (I) and
Elizabeth (Sellers) Jackson. Md. 22 Jan 1813 in Wayne Co. Ky. It
seems that the father of Sarah "Sally" Roberts, William Roberts,
objected to his daughter and John R. Jackson to be married to a
man by the name of Jackson. So John R. changed his surname to
Sellars, the maiden name of his mother. There is a new book on

There is considerable information on Baughs at the Pulaski County
Library. I have visited the grave of one Henry Baugh who served
in the Rev. War. He is buried at Ebenezer Church. My g-g-g
grandmother was Polly Baugh (c 1796-1850) who married James Walls
(c1796-1850) about 1823. Their daughter Martha Walls married my
gg grandfather Samuel Pennington (1828-1914). I would like to be
able to tie Polly Baugh in with` the other Baughs in Pulaski
County. I recently read one report that said all the Baughs in
Pulaski County were of German rather than English descent and
that the original name before being anglicized was Bach. Will
gladly exchange information.

Her father was Tom WHITAKER. I've always remembered my

Thanks.

BURTON

I am trying to find the parents of Emily J. Burton, who married
James Wesley in about 1866 ,I think in Pulaski Co Ky. My
Gtgrandmother is a sister to Emily J.Burton, she married a Calvin
Woods maybe from Wayne Co.Ky.
Thought if there was anyone who had a census record of this
Burton family ,it could be a way of learning the name of my
gtgrandmother.
Some say her name was Ferlie Or Ferbie Burton.{Maybe this is a
nickname.} She and Calvin Woods at at least one child named
Florence J.born in 1884 that married Robin Gossett Warren.
I will be happy to share information with anyone.
Thank you so very much.
