SIMPSON, Matthew Sr.,
BEREA
 

Matthew Willis Simpson Sr., 65, of Berea, widower of Margaret Willis Simpson, died Friday at The Terrace Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Berea.

He was a native of Madison County, a machinist and a member of the Goodloe Chapel.

He is survived by two sons, Matthew Simpson Jr. of Richmond and Charles B. (Karen) Simpson of Berea; one daughter, Mary Lee Smith of Richmond; five sisters, Mattie Harris of Lexington, Emily Johnson of Richmond, Lucy Blackfoot of Lexington, Katherine Hines of Dayton, Ohio and Julia Kavanaugh of Richmond. He is also suvived by two foster sisters, Donna Thompson and Barbara Campbell, both of Richmond; one foster brother, Theodric Ford Jr. of Lexington, 11 grandchildren, two great-granchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by his parents, Bennett and and Maude Jackson Simpson; two brothers, Jessie and George Simpson; and one sister, Verna Louise Simpson.
 

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednedsay at Oldham, Roberts and Powell Funeral Home with Rev. Hunter Byrd Jr. and Rev. Raymond Walker officiating. Burial will follow in the Madison County Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Sinclair Johnson, Gregory Kavanaugh, Freddie Willis, Ledale Kavanaugh, Darrell Simpson, Leroy Simpson, Jessie Simpson, Jr., and Charles Steven Simpson. Honorary pallbeareres will be Eugene Crutcher, Nathaniel Gipson, Charles Willis, James, Willis, James Hawkins, Larry Harris, Rodney Gipson, Abe Gipson and Keith Clark.
