POWELL, OPAL


Mrs. Opal Bishop Powell, 79, of 316 Forrest St., Berea, died Friday March 31, 1995 at the Madison Manor Nursing Home in Richmond. Born June 23, 1915, she was the daughter of the late James Madison and Martha Victoria Bishop Powell. She graduated from Wallins Creek High School, in Harlan County and attended Sue Bennett College and Western Kentucky University. She graduated from Berea College in 1936. She was a homemaker. She was the widow of Smith T. Powell, Jr.
 

Survivors include: two sons: Smith T. Powell III, Berea, and James M. Powell, Harrodsburg; one daughter, Martha Anne Crouse, Clay Center, NE; seven grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, four great grandchildren and 11 step-great grandchildren.
 

Services for Mrs. Powell were held Monday April 3, at 2:00 p.m. at the Hustonville Christian Church with the Rev. Michael Stump and the Rev. Joseph K. Altman officiating.
 

Pallbearers were George E. Powell, Sr., James Michael Powell II, Lindsey Wells Powell, Smith T. Powell IV, Tom Clay Powell, and William Christopher Powell. Burial was in the Hustonville Cemetery. Fox Funeral Home of Stanford was in charge of arrangements.
