Evelyn Martin

Evelyn Martin, 86, of Trenton, Ohio, died Monday, May 12, 2003, at her home in Trenton after a long illness.

She was born in Madison County, Ky., on April 11, 1917, to parents Thomas and Ethel (Todd) Poff. She lived in the Trenton area of Butler County since childhood.

Evelyn worked as a receptionist for the P. Lorillard Co. and at the Ohio Casualty Insurance Co., retiring in 1982. She loved sports and was one of the all-time great women’s fast pitch softball players of Butler County, as well as an avid bowler.

Evelyn is survived by her husband of 58 years, Herbert J. Martin of Trenton; a daughter, Marcia (Steve) Markham of Trenton; a son, Greg (Becky) Martin of Middletown; granddaughters Stephanie Markham, Angela Markham, Tracy (Jon) Baker, Megan Hurr, Susan Hurr and Mallory Hurr; great-granddaughter Lauren Baker; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Oscar, Chester, Dewey and Price Poff; and sisters Pearl Scholl, Edith Kimble, Jeanette Wilder and Clara Gardner.

ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, May 16, at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd. at Bonita Drive Middletown, with the Rev. Eric Newell officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at Miltonville Cemetery.
