RICHMOND, Ky. -- A Madison County man drowned Sunday while participating in an overnight fishing tournament at Wilgreen Lake near Richmond.

Ricky D. Conner, 42, of Richmond, drowned in 15 feet of water, according to Jimmy Cornelison, Madison County coroner. Cornelison said Conner could not swim and was not wearing a life preserver. Since Conner was alone, no one is sure exactly what happened; the coroner said nothing indicates foul play.

The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources is investigating the drowning to see whether there could have been a boat malfunction.

Conner was a superintendent for Johnson Cravens Construction Co. in Nicholasville.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Conner; a son, Rodney Conner; a daughter, Tina Conner; three brothers, Victor R., Billy W. and Michael Conner; two sisters, Judy Anglin and Debbie Applegate; and two grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, with burial in Flatwoods Cemetery in Waco. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. tomorrow.
