Mary Catherine Burgess
Mrs. Mary Catherine Burgess, 87, of Mount Sterling, Ky., formerly of Middletown,
Ohio, passed away Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003, at Mary Chiles Hospital in Mount
Sterling.
Catherine was born on Jan. 4, 1916, in Madison County, Ky., to the late Victor
and Sula (Creech) Lackey. Although she lived most of her life as a resident of
Middletown, Catherine lived the last three years in Mount Sterling, residing at
Windsor Care Center. She was a member of the Yankee Road First Church of God
during her years in Middletown.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James R. Burgess; an
infant son, Bobby Glen; three brothers, James, Beecham and Charles Lackey; and
three sisters, Willie Della Monce, Geneva Teater and Zoba Masters.
Mrs. Burgess leaves two sons, Harold (Wanda) Burgess of Kingsport, Tenn., and
Dan Burgess of Mount Sterling, Ky.; a daughter, Wilma (Del) Melton of Mount
Sterling; three grandchildren, Rick (Debbie) Melton and Kim (Bob) Shingleton,
both of Mount Sterling, Ky., and Robert (Lori) Burgess of Peachtree City, Ga.;
four great-grandchildren, Ashleigh Caudill, Erin Shingleton and Andrea Melton,
all of Mount Sterling, Ky., and Sam Burgess of Peachtree City, Ga.; a sister,
Ethel Burgess of Middletown, Ohio; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended
family members.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visitation will be Monday, Dec. 22, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Yankee
Road First Church of God, 3029 Yankee Road, Middletown. Funeral services are set
for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, at the church, with the Revs. Rodney Williams
and Kevin Collins officiating. Interment will be at Butler County Memorial Park
in Trenton, Ohio.
Arrangements are by Herr-Riggs Funeral Home, 210 S. Main St., Middletown.
