Death of Elisha Johnson

Irvine Times, April 6, 1921

Elisha JOHNSON, 50, of Old Landing died from a fractured skull received from a heavy blow. Found by son-in-law Everett BLACKWELL along side of track at Old Landing: said he had $80 or $90 on himself prior to injury, indicating that JOHNSON was beaten rather than having fallen from the train; BLACKWELL and Claude RAINES brought JOHNSON here.

Elisha JOHNSON was taken to St. Joseph Hospital, Lexington on April 1 and died from his injuries on April 2, 1921 at 5 p.m. His death certificate states his age at about 53, his occupation as farmer, his birthplace as Breathitt County, Kentucky. That his father was William JOHNSON and his mother was Lettie BRYANT. Elisha JOHNSON was married to Mary HALL Johnson.

Ellen JOHNSON, daughter of Elisha JOHNSON and Mary HALL, married Claude RAINES/RANES, son of James Frank RAINES and Cansas BAKER-TOWNSEND, Lee County Kentucky.

Lee JOHNSON, son of Elisha JOHNSON and Mary Alice HALL, married Esther Lou REYNOLDS, daughter of Daniel H. REYNOLDS and Mary Jane TERRY, March 31, 1921, in Owsley Co., KY. Early in the morning on they day of their wedding, a rider came on horseback and told them of Elisha's injuries. They hurried and got married so they could go to Irvine. They spent their honeymoon at Elisha's funeral in Lee County, Kentucky.
