Helen DISNEY BURKE

Mrs. Helen Marie Disney Burke, 69, of Gray, was born in Knox County, Ky. on July 22, 1937 to the late Rev. Fred Disney and Mary Belle Fisher Disney, and departed this life on Monday, August 21, 2006 in the Knox County Hospital. She was a member of the Old Time Baptist Church and a homemaker. She was also very instrumental in getting the Comprehensive Care Program started for the mentally handicapped. On August 7, 1953, she was united in marriage with Bill Burke. In addition to her parents, her husband: Bill Burke; a sister: Eulah Faye Jackson; a granddaughter: Rebecca Jaye Gambrel, and a great grandson: James Nathanial Asher preceded her in death.

Mrs. Burke is survived by her loving daughters: Teresa Reynolds and husband Wayne of West Liberty, Ky., Rose Marie Gambrel and husband Sam of Erlenger, Ky., Mary Sue Pickard and husband James of Gray, Barbara Ann Miracle and husband Terry of Trosper, Deanza Burke of Corbin and Elizabeth Hatfield and husband Thomas of Gray; a sister, Hazel Mae Thomas of Barbourville; 2 brothers: Claude L. Disney and wife Ruby, and Rev. Fred Disney Jr. and wife Ruth of Barbourville; 11 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and many friends to mourn her passing.

Funeral services for Mrs. Helen Marie Burke were conducted in the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, August 24, 2006 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Greg Jones officiating. Burial followed in the Disney Cemetery with her grandsons, Jacob Phipps, Joey Bunch, Samuel Gambrel, Aaron Miracle, Jason Withorn, Charles Cecil and Michael Asher serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearer was Cameron Hatfield. Hopper Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
