EDWARD E. BRAY, age 78, of Kay Jay, departed this life on Wednesday, May 16, 2001 at his home. He was the son of the late Dewey and Estes Hatmaker Bray, and was born to them on July 12, 1922 in Knox County. Mr. Bray was a veteran of the United States Army and a coal miner.

On September 18, 1942, he united in marriage with Gertrude Browning and to this union five children were born. He was saved and believed in the Baptist faith. Mr. Bray is preceded in death by his parents, Dewey and Estes Bray; one daughter, Olivia Powers; and one brother, James Dewey Dick Bray. Mr. Bray is survived by his wife, Gertrude Bray of Kay Jay; two daughters, Ella Sue Mullis and husband A. J. of Powers Branch, and Joyce Ann Jolly Bray of Stanton; two sons, Edward Estil Bray and wife Deloris Cookie, and Jerry W. Bray, both of Kay Jay; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, and many friends to mourn his passing.

Funeral services for Mr. Edward Bray were conducted in the Hampton Funeral Home Chapel Saturday, May 19, 2001 at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. Arnold Petrey and the Rev. B.F. Jackson officiating. Casketbearers were grandsons and grandsons-in-law and one friend, Doyle Brooks. Honorary bearers were William Stamper, Bill Skeens and Carnzzie Lane.

Hampton Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
