Matthew A. STEWART
Matthew Andrew Stewart, better known to us as M.A., 77, of Artemus, was born on August 27, 1929 in Knox County, Ky. He was a son of the late Jesse Stewart and Mossie Calloway Stewart. Mr. Stewart died at his residence, Tuesday, April 17, 2007. He was a member and elder of the Artemus Christian Church. Mr. Stewart was employed by Warnaco as a stitch room foreman, later he became assistant plant manager at the time of his retirement. He was a United States Navy Veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict. In September, 1952, he united in marriage to Vinnie Hampton and to this union a beloved Daughter, Teresa, was born. Surviving Mr. Stewart, his dear wife Vinnie Maude Stewart of Artemus, Ky.; his daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Danny Ramsey of Lexington, Ky.; his granddaughter, Dana M. Ramsey, of Lexington, Ky.; many beloved nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. Mr. Stewart was preceded in death by a sister, Pauline Brown and a brother, Ned Stewart. Funeral services for M.A. Stewart were conducted in Hopper Funeral Home Chapel Saturday, April 21, 2007 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Doug Martin, Rev. Scott Tageson, Rev. B.F. Jackson and Bro. Ed Jenkins officiating. Burial followed in the Barbourville Cemetery with great nephews serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were: the Artemus Christain Church Family, all Warnaco co-workers, all his special and loving caregivers, all Knox County Home Health Care employees, Don Carter, Leroy Nelson, Bud Jenkins, Leon Hinkle and Gordon Lewis. The Stewart family have suggested contributions may be made to the Artemus Christian Church or to the Knox County Cancer Fund in loving memory of M.A. Stewart. Arrangements were under the direction of Hopper Funeral Home.
