William MIRACLE
Mr. William Cordell Miracle, 93, of Corbin, formerly of Barbourville, passed away Thursday afternoon, November 16, 2006 in the Baptist Regional Medical Center. He was a son of the late Andrew and Lydia Mae Partin Miracle born on February 26, 1913 at Cubbage. In 1950, Mr. Miracle received his B. S. Degree from Union College and in 1954 received his Master's Degree from the University of Kentucky. He was a classroom teacher in the Bell County, Knox County and Barbourville City School Systems. He also was principal of Boone Elementary School and assistant principal at Knox Central High School and Lynn Camp High School. Mr. Miracle was a member of the Central Baptist Church of Corbin, Phi Delta Kappa at the University of Kentucky, the Kiwanis Club of Corbin and is listed in Who's Who in American Education. From 1966 to 1970 he served as Mayor of Barbourville and in the 1970's served on the Barbourville City Council. After retiring in 1974, he was a bailiff of the Knox Circuit Court for several years. He was a master musician on the harmonica and guitar as well as a luthier who built some of the finest stringed musical instruments in both tone and beauty. On August 30, 1940, he united in marriage with Marjorie Cleo Morris who preceded him in death. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Roosevelt, Clayton and Bradley Miracle and four sisters, Winnie Wilder, Rhoda Wilson, Ella Thompson and Polly Jenkins. Survivors include several nieces, nephews, other loved ones and dear friends who mourn his passing. His funeral service was conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Monday, November 20 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Jeff Crabtree officiating. Mr. Miracle was laid to rest in the Barbourville Cemetery. Casket bearers were deacons of the Central Baptist Church. Arrangements were under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
