Mrs. Maggie Liford, age 96, of Hinkle, KY, departed this life on Monday, June 30, 2008 in the Barbourville Nursing Home. She was the widow of Lawrence Liford. Mrs Liford was born on June 19, 1912 in Knox County to the union of Oscar and Dora Patterson Mooneyham; she was a housewife and homemaker. She became a born again Christian at the young age of 17. She loved to sell flowers, do volunteer work for the church, and make fried apple pies for all community events and to sit with the elderly. She was a faithful and dedicated member of Scalf Chapel Pentecostal Church for 79 years where she sang for the dedication in 1934. She always attended church faithfully three times a week until she became sick in March of this year. She was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star where she served as treasurer for Barbourville Chapter #411. She was actively serving as an original board of director for the Mooneyham and Patterson Clan. In September of 2002 by order of State Representative Jim Stewart, she received a promotion from Kentucky Colonel to a higher honor of Kentucky Admiral. Mrs. Liford was devoted to her God, Family, Church, Community and Friends. In February of 2001, after nearly seventy years of marriage she lost her husband Lawrence who was the love of her life, now they are together again. Mrs. Liford was preceded in death by her husband Lawerence, her parents Oscar and Dora Patterson Mooneyham, three brothers Raymond, Tom and R.C. Mooneyham, one sister Honor Clark and one grandchild. Survivors include four sons Lenville Liford and wife Betty of Panama City, Florida, Cecil Liford and wife Dolores, Vernon Liford and wife Susan, Wayne Liford and wife Debbie, all of Hinkle, KY., one daughter Loretta Irwin and husband Jack of Hinkle, KY., one brother Rev. James Mooneyham and wife Bea of Hinkle, KY., two sisters Carrie Mooneyham of Canton Michigan, Marie Sowders and husband Bev of Bimble, KY, seventeen Grandchildren, twenty-four Great-Grandchildren, and four Great Great-Grandchildren also survive her, plus two sisters-in-law Ms. Marie Mooneyham and Ms. Flora Thomas along with a host of other relatives and friends to mourn her passing. Funeral services for Mrs. Maggie Liford were conducted on Thursday July 3, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. in the Scalf Chapel Pentecostal Church with Rev. Ted Satterfield, Rev. Landon Sexton and Rev. Keith Liford officiating. Burial followed in the Martin, Mooneyham and Patterson Cemetery at Hinkle, KY. with Steve Liford, Rod Liford, Tony Liford, Keith Liford, Vernon Liford, Ben Liford, Nick Liford and John Liford serving as Pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers were Robert Liford, Dr. Paul Pedersen and Dr. James West. The family would like to give special thanks to Knox Family Medicine, Barbourville Nursing Home, Barbourville Order of the Eastern Star # 411, the Mooneyham and Patterson Clan. They would like to especially mention (granddaughters) Anne, Kristen, Lauren and Sarah Pedersen. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Scalf Chapel Pentecostal Church Building Fund. Hampton Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements. Friends were received at the Church Wednesday evening after 6 p.m. and until the funeral service on Thursday at 1 p.m. To the family of Mrs. Liford the staff of the Hampton Funeral Home would like to offer you our heartfelt sympathy during your time of bereavement.
