Mr. Hobart A. Jarvis Sr., 79, of Barbourville, passed away Monday evening, January 27, 2003 in the Barbourville Nursing Home. He was a son of the late Ambrose and Olliff Baxter Jarvis, born on March 22, 1923 at Benham. Mr. Jarvis was a retired federal mine inspector and a member and elder of the 19TH Street Church of Christ in Corbin. During World War II, he faithfully served in the Army Air Corps. At the time of his death, he was a board member of the Barbourville Housing Authority. On October 24, 1944, he united in marriage with Frankie Hayre in Tampa, Fla. and to this union five children were born. In addition to his parents, one sister, Goldie Perkins and one brother, Kenneth Jarvis, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Frankie Jarvis of Barbourville; five children, Sue Ann Fowler and husband Rick of Montgomery, Ala., Mary Elizabeth Downey and husband Jack of San Antonio, Texas, Ellen Hayre Jarvis and fiance Allen Marcum of Lexington, Hobart A. Jarvis Jr. and wife Patti of Lexington and Martha Laurel Navey and husband Byron of Florence, S.C.; two sisters, Nellie Murrin of Oak Ridge, Tenn. and Frances Ison of Covington, Ga.; three brothers, Edward Jarvis of Connecticut, James Jarvis of Dayton, Ohio and David Jarvis of Cynthiana; nine grandchildren; one great grandchild; among other loved ones and dear friends who mourn his passing. The funeral service was conducted in Knox Funeral Home Chapel Thursday, Jan. 30 with Bro. David Scott officiating. Mr. Jarvis was laid to rest in Barbourville Cemetery with military honors.

Casketbearers were Sean Callihan, Shannon Gregory, Gary Scott, Pat Hauser, John White, Calvin Riddle and John Reid. Honorary bearers were members of Hardee's Coffee Club.

Expressions of sympathy may go to either the 19TH Street Church of Christ, 405 19TH Street, Corbin, Ky 40701 or to one's favorite charity in loving memory of Mr. Jarvis.

Arrangements were under the direction of Knox Funeral Home.
