Mrs. Maggie Ketner Hignite, 99, of Shelbyville, formerly of Barbourville, passed away Saturday evening, Jan. 8, 2005 in the Masonic Home in Shelbyville. She was a daughter of the late Rufus Inman and Lula Lowe Ketner, born on may 10, 1905 in Chestnut Hill, Tenn.Mrs. Hignite was a former homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Barbourville. In 1995, she was honored as Senior Citizen of the Year. Mrs. Hignite was a Kentucky Colonel and known for her cooking. She enjoyed gardening and quilting. In 1927, she united in marriage with Thomas Hignite in Chestnut Hill, Tenn. and to this union two daughters were born. Mr. Hignite preceded her in death in 1980.Survivors include her two daughters, Frances Burkholder and husband David, of Comstock Park, Mich. and Leigh Burnett and husband Richard, of Shelbyville; a sister, Gladys Miller of Jefferson City, Tenn,; a brother, J.B. Ketner and wife Foy, of Jonesboro, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Thomas Burkholder and wife Jacqueline, of Mt. Pleasant, Mich., Elizabeth Chludzinski and husband John, of Longwood, Fla., Margaret Johnson of Franklin and Dierdre Hayden of Shelbyville; nine great grandchildren; a special lady who later joined the family circle, Wilma Boughton deSpain of Greensburg; among other loved ones and dear friends who mourn her passing. Her funeral service was conducted in Knox Funeral Home Chapel Tuesday, Jan. 11 with the Rev. James Doughton officiating. Mrs. Hignite was laid to rest in Barbourville Cemetery. Casketbearers were David Burkolder, Richard Burnett, Thomas Burkholder, Brian Burkholder, Patrick Burkholder and Grant Johnson. Expressions of sympathy may go to either the First United Methodist Church of Barbourville or to the charity of ones choice. Arrangements were under the direction of Knox Funeral Home.
