Clyde W. Hicks, 83, Newcomb, Tennessee, passed away Thursday, August 1, 2002 at St. Mary's Medical Center of Campbell County in LaFollette, Tennessee.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving from 1944-1946 and was awarded the Distinguished Unit Badge, Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Bronze Star. Clyde always cared about the people of Newcomb. In 1997 he purchased and donated the old Newcomb School to be used as a community center. He was one of the older male residents of Newcomb.

Clyde is survived by Hassie, his wife of over 66 years; daughters, Ruth Fairchild of Taylor, Michigan, Kathleen Owens and husband, Jerry of Cincinnati, Ohio, Wilma Bailey and husband, Stanley of Miamisburg, Ohio, Debbie Christen of Vancouver, Washington, Betty Cordle and husband, Don of Berlin Heights, Ohio and Nancy Douglas and husband, Ricky of Newcomb, Tennessee; sons, Darrell Hicks of Newcomb, Tennessee, Harold Hicks and wife, Judy of Monticello, Gary Hicks and wife, Barb of Newcomb, Tennessee and Larry Hicks of Atlanta, Georgia; 33 grandchildren and step-grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; sisters, Rosa Martin of Wabash, Indiana, Eva Jeffers of Newcomb, Tennessee, Effie Allen of Oneida, Tennessee, and Rachel Hicks of Pioneer, Tennessee; also numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. He will be greatly missed by all.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jonas and Sallie Hicks; his brother, Edgar Hicks; and his sisters, Ethel, Alice, and Etta.

Funeral services were held Saturday, August 3 at the Llewellyn Funeral Home Chapel in Jellico with the Rev. Vic Edwards officiating. Burial was in the Fox Cemetery, Newcomb, Tennessee with military honors provided by the Campbell County Honor Guard.
