FRANCES PATRICIA HOCKER GIESEL, 84, Louisville, passed away Monday, May 6, 2002. Born in Corbin on August 1, 1917, she was the daughter of Robert Earl Hocker and Nell Hocker Rivers. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Frank J. Gieszl, and one grandson, Thomas Walter Gieszl.

The majority of her life, Mrs. Gieszl resided in Corbin, where she was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was a member of the Corbin Ossoli Club (and former president), Corbin Garden Club, Democratic Women's Club, Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels, and Corbin Public Library Board. She had been president of Friends of the Library (Kentucky Library Association), and had served on the State Board for the Certification of Librarians.

Survivors include three daughters, Frances Ann Bobbitt and husband, Robert Bobbitt of Lexington, Marie Bernadette Smith and husband, William Penn Smith of Louisville, and Christine Elizabeth Mims of Corbin; two sons, Frank Josef Gieszl II and wife, Sue Dugger Gieszl of Miamisburg, Ohio and Robert Earl Gieszl and wife, Suzanne Lennon Gieszl of Louisville; seven grandsons, Frank J. Gieszl III of Miamisburg, Ohio, William Bryan Smith and wife, Katy of Memphis, Tennessee, Herbert Norman Mims, Jr. and wife, Nadine of Greendale, Wisconsin, Michael Todd Gieszl and wife, Stacey of Morain, Ohio, Steven Patrick Smith and wife, Tara of Atlanta, Georgia, Mark Christopher Mims and wife, Christy of Louisville, Robert Earl Gieszl II of Louisville; one granddaughter, Frances Elizabeth Smith Wyatt and husband, Christopher of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; two great-grandchildren, Lily Katherine Smith of Memphis, Tennessee and Samuel Patrick Mims of Greendale, Wisconsin; and two brothers, Bill Rivers of Ramsey, Indiana and Mickey Rivers of Rockville, Maryland.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, May 11 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fr. Robert Damron officiating. Interment was in the Pine Hill Cemetery. Grandchildren served as pallbearers.
