Mr. Jim E. Cheek age 83 of Barbourville, KY passed away Tuesday-January 15, 2008 in the VA Medical Center, Lexington, KY. He was the husband of Alice Carnes Cheek. Mr. Cheek was the son of Grover Cleveland Cheek and Doshie Head born to them March 14, 1924 in Big Stone Gap, Virginia. He was the owner and operator of Cheeks repair Shop for 50 years and loved to work on his house. His parents preceded Mr. Cheek in death. Survivors for Mr. Cheek include his wife Alice Carnes Cheek of Barbourville, KY, two sons Jim Cheek and wife Tina of Barbourville, KY and Mike Strange and wife Pam of Barbourville, KY, one sister Evelyn Redmon of Middlesboro, KY and brother Donald Gibson and wife Judy of Frakes, KY. Mr. Cheek also leaves behind two grandchildren Samantha and Tabitha Strange in addition to a host of friends and neighbors to mourn his passing. Funeral services for Mr. Cheek will be conducted Friday-January 18, 2008 at 3:30p.m. in the Hampton Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Denvil Taylor and Rev. Brian Miracle officiating. Pallbearers will be friends and neighbors. Burial will follow in the Hammons Cemetery at Flat Lick, KY. Hampton Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
