Mr. PHILLIP P. COX Sr., 89, of Barbourville, passed away Wednesday evening, April 21, 1999 at his home. He was the son of the late Philipp and Pauline Fritz Fox born on June 18, 1909 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Mr. Fox was a retired bookkeeper for the Viall Lumber Company and Marshall Lumber Company, a former employee of the A-J Railroad Company and a part-time writer for the Advocate Publishing Company. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America for over 40 years, and was a member and former secretary and master of Masonic Mountain Lodge 187 F & A M and a past District Deputy Grand Master of District 36. He served on the Barbourville City Council and was awarded Citizen of the Year. On August 10, 1930, he united in marriage with Sally York in Barbourville In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sally, on March 21, 1988. Funeral services were conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home on Saturday, April 24 at 11 a.m. with Bro. Finley Barnett, Father Jerome Stern, Larry York, Lewis Hopper, Pat Hauser and John David King officiating. Masonic rites will be given following the funeral service. Mr. Fox will be laid to rest in the Barbourville Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may go to Boy Scouts #529, Blue Grass Council, Artemus Christian Church or St. Gregory Catholic Church in loving memory of Mr. Fox. Knox Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
