Gertrude B. Carnes, 92, of Dewitt, passed away Sunday evening, April 16, 2006 in Pineville Community Hospital. Arrangements are pending and will be announced later by Knox Funeral Home.

Gertrude BINGHAM CARNES

Mrs. Gertrude Bingham Carnes, 92, of Walker, passed away Sunday evening, April 16, 2006 in the Pineville Community Hospital. She was a daughter of the late John M. and Elithia Baker Bingham born on Nov. 19, 1913 at Walker.

Mrs. Carnes was a former homemaker and a member of the Dewitt Baptist Church since Aug. 20, 1944. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, raising animals and caring for her grandchildren. She was an avid UK and Cincinnati Reds fan.

On Oct. 28, 1938, she united in marriage with Will L. Carnes in Barbourville and to this union a daughter was born.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Will, on Oct. 9, 1922; a sister, Lucy B. Mills and two brothers, Cal and Ulyess Bingham. Survivors include her daughter, Maxola Gregory and husband Harold Clifford, of Walker; a sister, Lola Hammons of Barbourville; two grandchildren, Dr. Harold Clif Gregory and wife Tracey and Anthony Kevin Gregory, all of Walker; four great grandchildren, Madalyn Kamkar of Georgetown, Jonathan, Ethan and Duncan Gregory, all of Walker; her devoted caregivers, Phyllis Mills, Jill Philpot, Ludenia Mills, Virgie Bingham, Betty Mills and Gladys Gambrel; among other loved ones and dear friends who mourn her passing.

Her funeral service was conducted in Knox Funeral Home Chapel Thursday, April 20 at 2 p.m. with the Revs. Clay Harrel and Brian Miracle officiating. Mrs. Carnes was laid to rest in the Green Carnes Cemetery at Walker.

Casketbearers were Harold Clif Gregory, Anthony Kevin Gregory, Gerald Bingham, Darryl Dean Bingham, Allen Frank Carnes and Glenn D. Mills. Honorary bearers were friends and neighbors. Expressions of sympathy may go to the Dewitt Baptist Church in loving memory of Mrs. Carnes. Arrangements were under the direction of Knox Funeral Home.
