WILL OF SAMUEL SMITH
dated, 31 January 1787
proved, September Court 1789
In the Name of God Amen I Samuel Smith of The Perish of St. Brides In the County of Norfolk and Commonwealth of Virginia being Weak in Body but of a Sound Mind, Memory and Understanding Do therefore Make this my Last Will and Testament In Manner and form as follows----Viz----
First, I give and Bequeath unto my Mother Eunice Smith The Land whereon I now live To hold and Enjoy the Same during her natural Life together with all the appurtenances Thereon. And after the Decease of my Mother, The said Land and appurtenance shall be Devol'd Unto my Brother Richard Smith, To him and his heirs forever.
Secondly, I give and bequeath unto my Brother John Smith my Plantation situated near the head of Black Water River-- Containing about Fifty Acres be the same more or less to him the said John Smith and his heirs forever____________
As also two negroes Viz Old Peg and Young Peg-- Also one bed and furniture
Thirdly, I give and bequeath to my Mother Eunice Smith, my mare, bridle & saddle to her only use and behoof___forever____Also six Flag Chairs, one bed and furniture___
Forthly, I give and bequeath to my brother Richard Smith, two negroes Viz, Will and Mary to him and his heirs forever as also one mahogony desk, one walnutt table, one bed and furniture _________
Lastly, my books of acco'ts and all other papers I leave in the Power of my Exors, here after named at their descretion to act for the Estate and after my just debts being first paid. That whatever that may remain over and above the afforementioned legacys be equally divided between the above legatees. And I do hereby constitute and appoint my true and trusted friends as follows, my Mother Eunice Smith, Lattimer Holstead, Thomas Bressie Sen'r, and Joseph Harding my Exors. of this my last will and testament revoking all former Wills by me heretofore made or that hereafter may be. In Testimony whereof I have here unto Sett my hand & seal this Thirty first day of January one Thousand Seven Hundred and Eighty Seven.

We Eunice Smith (mother of) and John Smith brother of the late Samuel Smith deceased as hereby certify to all whom it may concern, that we do reliquish all right we have to the Administration on the said Decedents Estate in favor of Mr. Latimer Holstead whom we particularly request should take the administration--Given under my hand this 17th day of May 1790. -------- her
