Clarence Brown

This is of Clarence Brown CA 1942. The location was Valdosta Ga. The plane shown was a training plane used by pilots for solo flight certification. Clarence told me that several of the men would actually come back from a flight and need the mechanics to cut fence wire and corn stalks from the wheels as they were guilty of a bit of "barnstorming". Clarence went on to be a bombardier, and was qualified as a pilot on a B-17.
He told me of a story while he was training in Georgia that one day a B-29 came in and came to rest. Out of the plane came the pilot, it was another Flat Gap, Ky. native, Howard Ross. I guess it was a welcome sight to be that far from home and see a very familiar face.
