     The twenty-two year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Lafe Preston, of Meally, Pvt. Preston is with the 636 Tank Battalion in Italy and was one of the first to go into Rome. A former student at Meade, Preston was in combat duty in North Africa.

    Lt. Gen. Clark has commended the 636th Tank Battalion "for its outstanding performance of duty in action on September 13 and 14 during the Invasion of Italy" He further stated that the "courageous performance of each man in the battalion contributed materially to the prevention of a breakthrough which would have threatened the solidarity of the entire beachhead."

    Pvt. Preston has a brother Sam who is also in Italy but the boys have been to occupied to look each other up.
