Walter Gaiski

    Sgt. Walter Gaiski of the chemical warfare division of the U.S. Army was killed on January 26 in action in Italy the War Department has notified his mother, Mrs. Francis Ohemeluvski, Van Lear.

    Walter was born on Aug. 17, 1917, Sergeant Gaiski attended Van Lear High School, later being employed by the Consolidation Coal Company as brakeman for seven years. The company considered him an excellent workman. He volunteered in the Army on March 9, 1942, leaving Paintsville on the 16th of that month. Shortly before going overseas nine months ago he was home for a furlough. His father, John Gaiski, is an inside track man for Consolidation.

    The day after Sergeant Gaiski’s death, on January 27, a letter written by him on Christmas Day was printed in the Herald.
