Thomas Jefferson Salyers


    Mrs. Mima Salyers of West Van Lear received a telegram on Friday, May 18, 1945, that her son, Pfc. Thomas Jefferson Salyers, 21, U. S. Marine Corps, was killed on Wednesday, May 2, 1945 on Okinawa.

    He entered service on Friday, October 22, 1943, taking his training at Parris Island, S. C. and Camp Lejune, N.C. and went overseas in May, 1944. Prior to entering service he was employed by Kroger Baking co., in Columbus, Ohio.

    Besides his mother, he is survived by one brother, Harry M. Salyers, one half-brother and one half-sister and several aunts and uncles.
