Ora Conley

Body of Local Boy Among War Dead To Arrive in U. S.

The body of T-5 Ora Conley, son of Eddie Conley of Flat Gap, has been returned to the United States, together with the bodies of 61 Kentuckians, aboard the U. S. Army transport Honda Knott from the South Pacific.

The caskets were the first of tens of thousands, which will stream continuously into the once bustling port of embarkation in months to come. Covered with flags, they were moved from the dock to a huge white and silver building, where they will be separated and placed on waiting funeral trains for transportation to distribution centers throughout the country.

Kentucky relatives of the dead received telegrams telling them the bodies are being shipped to redistribution centers in Atlanta, Memphis, and Columbus, and should arrive Soon in their hometowns.

It was announced this week that 86 of Johnson County’s war dead would be returned from the different theaters of War.
