James Turner Preston


    James Turner Preston, 64, former resident of this city, died of a heart attack Saturday, January 5, at his home in St. Albans, W. Va.

    Mr. Preston, a native of this city, was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Dan Preston.  He located in St. Albans in 1942 and had operated the Preston Grocery in that city since 1949.  He had formerly been employed by chemical plants in the valley. Mr. Preston was a veteran of World War I and a member of St. Peter’s Methodist Church at St. Albans and John Brawley Post of American Legion in Charleston, W. Va.

    Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Preston; a son, James T. Jr., at home; two daughters, Mrs. Mehrel Shank of Nitro, W. Va. and Mrs. Walter Hambrick of Columbia, S. C.; four sisters, Mrs. Herbert Wheeler of South Charleston, W. Va.; Mrs. Carson Davis of Ashland; Mrs. Frank Harrison and Miss Henrietta Preston both of Pikeville; two brothers, Howard of Ashland and Paul of Shreveport, La.  Also surviving is a grandson.

     Funeral services were conducted Monday, January 7, at St. Peter’s Methodist Church with the Reverend Sam Sink officiating. Burial was in Cunningham Memorial Park.
