James P. Jennings


James P. Jennings, the son of Elbert Jennings, Sr. and Mary Preston Jennings.

He was born February 7, 1914 and died March 3, 1995 in Decatur, Alabama.

S-Sgt. James P. Jennings, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elbert Jennings, Meally has been awarded the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service while serving with the 376th Infantry Regiment in connection with military operations against an enemy on January 17, 1945. As a member of a wire crew laying telephone lines across a river, Sgt. Jennings oriented and encouraged his men under adverse weather conditions and enemy fire. Despite intense enemy artillery fire he calmly and efficiently directed the operation, and completed the mission.

Sgt. Jennings' capable leadership and calmness under fire were an inspiration to all and are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service.

He entered military service in October, 1939.
