Services Held Today For John A. Jones Local Funeral Director

    John A. Jones, 68, local funeral director, passed away Sunday, January 1953, at his home on Main Street following an illness of three years. Death was attributed to complications. He came to the Paintsville vicinity in 1914 as an employee of the North-East Coal Company and in 1917 was appointed manager of the company's store at Auxier where he resided with his family. He later became associated with a group of local businessmen in the Paintsville Furniture Company and Funeral Home, and in 1941 opened his own undertaking establishment under the name of the Jones Funeral Home where he was assisted by his sons. His work took him into thousands of homes in Johnson and adjoining counties, where he made many friends. His charitable disposition and geniality will forever endear him to the hearts of the people of thissection.

    Born in Gallia, Ohio on January 13, 1885, he was a son of David and Elizabeth Jenkins Jones. He was married to Miss Lexie Sims in Gallipolis, Ohio on June 26, 1907. He was a member of Mayo Memorial Methodist Church, I.O.O.F. Lodge, National Funeral Directors Associations of Eastern Kentucky and Kentucky, 4-H Club Council and was past president of the Paintsville Kiwanis Club.
