James H. Hayes


    First Lt. James H. Hayes whose home is at River, Ky, has been awarded a Combat Infantryman Badge for exemplary Conduct against the enemy in the New Georgia South Pacific Campaign 1942-43.

    Lt. Hayes spent 18 months in combat duty in the Pacific returning to this county November, 1943. He contracted Malaria while on duty in the Pacific cauisng his return to the U. S. Soon after his return he was married to Mary Ruth Poole the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Emmitt Poole of West Van Lear.

    Lt. Hayes is the only son of Mrs. Pansy Hayes Walters of River.
