John David Preston

    John David Preston was born in Paintsville on December 29, 1950 to J. Frank and Olga Preston. 

    John David Graduated from Prestonsburg High School in 1969 with the distinction of being valedictorian. He then enrolled in Harvard University under a scholarship, graduating 1973 with a BA, Magna Cum Laude. His major was history. In 1976 he graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Law. While there he served on the Moot Court Board and the Law Journal Staff. After graduation he joined G. C. Perry III in private practice. Today the practice is known as Perry, Preston and Miller, located in Paintsville.

    John David has been very active in all aspects of Johnson County and its people. Memberships can be found in the Jaycees,  the Rotary Club, Masonic Lodge, El Hasa Shrine,  Military Order of the Loyal Legion, UK Alumni and many more.

    John David is well known in the political arena with a win as he was elected as the Commonwealth Attorney for the 24th Judicial Court in 1982. In 1988 he was appointed Mayor of the City with the resignation of  Mayor Robert Wiley. He was then elected to a full four year term in 1989 which he until he was elected to the Senate in 1993.

    John David is also an avid historian. He authored  "The Civil War in The Big Sandy Valley of Kentucky"   Relaxation comes in the form of being a gentleman farmer. A past time love that he shares with his wife Mary.

    Johnson County is indeed lucky to have such a fine citizen within the boundaries to take care of the needs  of the people.
