Vincie Pack slays Mrs. Julia Ann Castle

            Vincie Pack who resides just over the county line in Lawrence County shot and killed his mother in law Mrs. Julia Ann Castle, who resides in Johnson County on the Rock House Fork of Hood last Monday last Monday evening about 5:00 p. m.

            Harry Castle, husband of the woman, brought his little girl into the Golden Rule Hospital Tuesday morning where a bullet was extracted from her arm which she received during the shooting.

            Mr. Castle and others from that section who were in Paintsville secured a warrant for the arrest of Pack who left the castle home immediately after the shooting. Officers are now in search of the fugitive.

            Reports say that Pack, who married a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Castle, was under the influence of liquor when he came to the home for his wife and baby and when he demanded that they go home with him, the wife and the parents suggested it was too late to go home and suggested that Pack come in and stay for the night. It is said that he then grabbed his baby and started firing in the home killing Mrs.. Castle and wounding her daughter, Bonnie Castle, 12 years old.

            Pack and his wife had been having trouble and the wife returned to the home of her parents when Pack arrived there in company with Deb Justice, it is reported, and the pistol was taken from Justice with which the Castle Woman was killed.

Pack Arrested Deputy Sheriffs make Arrest

    Vincie Pack who shot and killed his mother-in-law, Mrs. Julia Castle and wounded her daughter, Bonnie last week at their home on Hoods Fork, near the Lawrence County line, was arrested and brought to the Johnson County jail last Wednesday by deputy Sheriffs Ira Slone, A J Daniel and Grant Daniel. Pack was found in Lawrence County and offered no resistance when the officers made the arrest.

            Deb Justice, Pack's companion was also arrested to being a party to the crime and was lodged in jail along with Pack. Both Pack and Justice claim that Mrs. Castle and her husband were firing at them when Pack killed the woman and injured the little girl. Mr. Castle and others in eh house claim that Pack fired after his wife refused to accompany him.

            The examining trial of Pack and Justice was set last Saturday was continued until Wednesday this week.
