Body of Nippa Youth Among Returned War Dead

     Pvt. Carl E. Castle, better known as “Red”, son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl castle, Nippa, was reported killed in Germany on September 26, 1944. He attended the Oil Springs High School and at the time of his induction he was working in Lima, Ohio. He was 20 yeas old, and had been in service fourteen months, taking training in California and Texas.

     He was home on furlough in July and embarked with an Infantry Replacement Company for Europe in August where he joined the First Army and was among the first to enter Germany. Besides his parents, eh leaves one brother, Earl Thomas, at home.     


The body of Cpl. Carl E. Castle, son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Castle, Nippa, has arrived in New York aboard the transport, Joseph V. Connolly, it was announced by the War Department last week.

Cpl. Castle was killed in action in Germany on September 20, 1944. He entered the service in June 1943, while working in Lima, Ohio. He had attended Oil Springs High School.

He is survived by his parents and a brother, Earl Thomas Castle.

Cpl. Castle was 20 years of age at the time of his death.
