Commonwealth of Kentucky, Hickman County and Circuit Set:

The GRAND JURORS duly empanelled, Sworn, and charged to enquire for said Commonwealth and the body of the County aforesaid at the April Term of the Hickman Circuit Court in the year 1839 upon their oaths present that Robert N Lewis late of said county yeoman on the 13th day of April in the year 1839 in a certain House in the county of Hickman and Circuit aforesaid did then and there play an unlawful game at cards with Thomas Griffey & Anthony G. Bartlett and that the said Robert N Lewis by playing & betting at this said game at cards, with the said Thomas Griffey & Anthony G. Bartlett as aforesaid did then and there at one time within the space of twenty four hours win from the said Thomas Griffey and Anthony G. Bartlett a greater sum of money than five pounds to wit the sum of one hundred Dollars lawful money, to wit as the county & circuit aforesaid.

And the Jurors on their oaths do further present that the said Robert N Lewis on the day and year aforesaid at the county & circuit aforesaid in a certain other house in the said county & circuit did then and there play an unlawful game at cards with the said Thomas Griffey and Anthony G. Bartlett and that the said Robert N Lewis by then and there playing and betting on the said game of cards with the said Thomas Griffey and Anthony G. Bartlett as aforesaid, did then and there at one time within the space of twenty four hours win from the said Thomas Griffey & Anthony G. Bartlett amount of Bank bills, notes and checks of greater value than five pounds to wit the amount of Bank Bills, Notes and checks of the value of one hundred Dollars to wit at the county & circuit aforesaid contrary to the form of the statue in that case made and provided against the peace and dignity of the said Commonwealth.

The Commonwealth of Kentucky:

To the Sheriff of Hickman County, Greeting:

We command you to summon Robert N Lewis to appear before the Judge of Hickman Circuit Court, at the Court-House in the town of Clinton on the first day of the next July term, to answer a certain Presentment of the Grand Jury, against him at the April term, 1839 for Gaming against the peace and dignity of the Commonwealth of Kentucky; and have then and there this writ. Witness WHH Taylor Clerk of our said Court, at the Court-House aforesaid this 1 day of May 1839 and in the 47 year of the Commonwealth. WHH Taylor.

You are likewise commanded to summon John H Tyler to appear at the time and place aforesaid, as witness on behalf of the Commonwealth in said case. WHH Taylor

To the Sheriff of Hickman County, Greeting:

We command you to summon John H Tyler to appear before the Judlge of our Hickman Circuit Court at the Court-House in Clinton, on the 2 day of our April term, to testify and the truth to speak in behalf of the Commonwealth in a certain matter of controversy now in our said court depending, wherein the commonwealth plaintiff and said Robert N Lewis is defendant and this you shall in no wise omit under the penalty of 100 pounds, and have then there this writ.

Witness Wm HH Taylor, Clerk of our said Court, at the Court-house aforesaid ths 29 day of Nov’r 1839, and in the 48year of the Commonwealth. WHH Taylor
