Charges:
The Commonwealth of Kentucky Hickman County and Circuit, Set:

The GRAND JURORS, duly empanelled, sworn, and charged to enquire for said Commonwealth, and the body of the County aforesaid at the April term of the Hickman Circuit Court in the year 1839 upon their oaths present that Thomas Binford of said County yeoman on the first day of April in the year 1839 in the county of Hickman and Circuit aforesaid did then and there presume to keep a Tipling House by selling & retailing ardent Spirits by the Small viz ½ pint of whiskey, ½ pint of Rum & ½ pint of Brandy without first having attained a license to keep a Tavern according to law Contrary to the form of the statute in that case made and provided, and against the peace and dignity of said Commonwealth.

We command you to summon Thomas Binford as we have often times done before to appear before the Judge of our Hickman Circuit Court, at the Court-House in the town of Clinton on the first day of the next June term, to answer a certain Presentment of the Grand Jury, against him at the April term, 1839 for keeping a tipling house against the peace and dignity of the Commonwealth of Kentucky; and have then and there this write. Witness WHH Taylor Clerk of said Court, at the Court-House aforesaid, this 1st day of May 1840 and in the 48 year of the Commonwealth. WHH Taylor
