Commonwealth of Kentucky vs George Dobson & William Bartlett

 

The Commonwealth of Kentucky., Hickman County and Circuit, Set:

The GRAND JURORS, duly empanelled, sworn, and charged to enquire for said Commonwealth, and the body of the County aforesaid at the July term of the Hickman Circuit Court in the year 1839 upon their oaths present that George Dobson late of said County Yeoman and William Bartlett late of said county, yeoman, on the 10th day of July in the year eighteen hundred and thirty nine in the county of Hickman and Circuit aforesaid then and there did make and affray to then and there fighting together in the town of Moscow in the County and Circuit aforesaid the said town of Moscow being a public place in the said county of Hickman to the terror and disturbance of lives of the good Citizens of this Commonwealth then and there being present and to the evil examples of all others of the citizens of said Commonwealth against the form of the statute in that case made and provided, and against the peace and dignity of said Commonwealth.

The Commonwealth of Kentucky:

To the Sheriff of Hickman County, Greeting:

We command you to summon William Jones, Ezekial Ramsay, Morris Williams to appear before the Judge of our Hickman Circuit Court at the Court-House in the town of Clinton on the first day of our April term, to testify and the truth to speak in behalf of George Dobson in a certain matter of controversy now in our said court depending, wherein the Commonwealth of Kentucky is plaintiff and George Dobson is defendant and this you shall no wise omit under penalty of £100 and have then there this writ. Witness, WHH Taylor Clerk of our said Court, at the Court-house aforesaid, this 29 day of February 1840 and in the 48 year of the Commonwealth.

We of the Jury find the Defendances guilty and that they pay each seven dollars.

We of the Jury find the within named defendants guilty in manner and form as is charged in within presentment and assess their fines to the Commonwealth by (?) thereof it seven dollars each.
