Matthew Stewart
Elizabeth Stewart, his wife
Elizabeth died September 19, 1855, age 82
No monument was ever erected at their gravesite, although it was once
marked with a pile of rocks.

From Greenup Co. Kentucky Deaths:  Elizabeth Stewart, 82, female widow, farmer's wife, born Pennsylvania, parents not known. Died September 19, 1855 Dysentery.

Matthew and Elizabeth were married May 30, 1793 in Bourbon Co. KY.  Parental Consent was given by James and Caty Githens.  

“To the Clerk of Bourbon greeting know ye that I and my  family is agreed that Matthew Stewart and my daughter Elizabeth Gitthens join in the holy State of matrimoney.  Given from under our hands the twenty fifth day of May in the year of our lord 1793.  (signed) James Gitthins  Caty Gitthins   Thos Reeder Esq.”

Elizabeth, wife of John G. Stewart
Died Aug 10, 1855 in the 48th year of her life.
Mourn not for it is vain to call me to your sight again.

From Greenup Co. Kentucky Death records: Elizabeth Stewart, 48, married, female, farmer's wife, daughter of Moses Fuqua died 10 August 1855, Fever.

Elizabeth was the daughter of Moses Fuqua, Jr. and Cynthia Ann Collins.
Cynthia was the daughter of Judge John Collins of Alexandria, now Scioto Co. Ohio.

The marriage of  John G. Stewart and Elizabeth Fuqua was recorded in Greenup December 21, 1831;  Moses Fuqua, bondsman.  After Elizabeth’s death, John Stewart married October 16, 1856 Susan Marie (McMullan) Wilson, widow of  Jesse D. Wilson.

Wife of Robert Laughlin Stewart

 Robert L. Stewart was a member of the Masonic  lodge. He  died Jan. 11, 1893 and Masonic rites were given Jan. 13 1893.

Obituary Portsmouth Times Sat January 21, 1893:
Robert Stewart, one of Greenup County's most respected men, died at his home on Little Sandy Wednesday of consumption.  He was buried by the Masons Thursday.

Note:  Robert Laughlin Stewart was the namesake of Robert Laughlin,  husband of his mother’s sister, Judith Fuqua.  Robert L. Stewart married first Elizabeth Maynard October 11, 1860 who died before the 1870 census. Robert married 2nd, Eliza Ann Sperry, December 17, 1874.  A large marble stone was once erected to Robert L. and his wives, but it has broken off at the base and only the base remains.

Mary B. Carr
Dec 14 1878 - Sept 1, 1947

This stone was still intact on our last visit to the cemetery (2000).

Mary “Maymie” Boynton Stewart was the daughter of Robert L. Stewart and Eliza Ann Sperry.  Robert had a sister, Mary, who married Feurt Boynton of Haverhill, Ohio and Maymie was her namesake.  Mary “Maymie” B. Stewart married Adam Carr.

Obituary: Mrs. Adam Carr Sept 1, 1947
Following a year's illness of a heart ailment, Mrs. Mary B. Carr, 68,  2513 17th St., died Monday at the home of a sister, Mrs. Denver Eggers of Hillsboro.  She was born Dec. 14, 1878, in Greenup Co. A former resident of Fullerton, she was a member of the Fullerton Methodist Church.  Surviving are her husband, Adam Carr; seven children, William and Albert Carr of Portsmouth, Vernon Carr of Greenup Co., Mrs. Bonnie Perkins of Cincinnati, Howard and Pauline Carr of Raceland and Carl of New Orleans, and the following brothers and sisters B.E. and M.W. Stewart of Worthington, Ky.,  and Matthew Stewart of Henriette, (Henryetta,  Okmulgee Co.)  Oklahoma, Mrs. J.C. Mitchell of Portsmouth, Mrs. Bertha Jones of Chicago and Mrs. Eggers, at whose home she passed away.  The body is at the Morton Funeral Home pending funeral arrangements.

Elizabeth, wife of E. L. Ellington
 died July 30 18?1 (may be 1891) aged 31 years 7 months?

This stone was still intact on our last visit to the cemetery (2000).

Note: Catharine Stewart b. 1801,  daughter of Matthew Stewart and Elizabeth Githens,  married (1) James McGuire, (2) Henry Geiger and (3) William Ellington on December 20, 1834 and moved to Platte Co., MO.  Relationship to E. L. Ellington, not known, nor is the identity of his wife, Elizabeth.

Matthew Stewart, son of  John G. Stewart and Elizabeth Fuqua, married Bridgett Plunkett in 1859 and is said to have a daughter, Elizabeth, who is buried in this cemetery. From the writings of Charles L. Stewart:  "Uncle Matt married and raised one daughter, Elizabeth. Hers is the third and last marble headstone in the family cemetery."  Is this referring to Elizabeth, wife of E. L.  Ellington?

There may have been more burials in this cemetery, but have to date located no other stones or records.
