Will of George Kays, 1817

In the name of god, Amen. The 31st of July in the year of our lord 1817, George Kays of Kentucky in the county of Garrard, being very sick and weak in body but of perfect mind and memory thanks to god for the same and calling to mind the mortality of the body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die do make and ordain, this my last will and testament that is to say principally and first of all. I give and precommend my soul to god that gave all and for my body. I recommend it to the earth to be buried in a Christian like and descent manner at the discretion of my executors doubting not but at the general resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of god and as touching such worldly estate where it has pleased god to bless one in this life. I give devise and dispose of in the following manner that is to say in the first place. I give and bequeath unto Polly, my dear beloved wife all my property during her natural life or Keys widowhood. also, my father and mother to have the privilege of continuing on my land and plantation during their lives. I also appoint Polly, ____ and Ruben Tarrant my sole executors. At the expiration of the said, I wish my property equally divided between my 10 children which is to say: John, Jane, Betsy, William, Solomon, Jessy, James, Polly, Henry, Patsy and I do hereby, utterly disallow, revoke, and disannull all and every other formed testament, wills, and legeses requests. Executors by me in anyway before this time named, willed, and ratified and confirmed this and no other to be my last will and testament in witness where of I have here unto set my hand and seal the day and date before written.
