Richard Potts, Confederacy Amnesty Pardon

To the President of the United States,

Your petitioner, Richard Potts, would respectfully represent, that he was an assistant Surgeon in the United States service when the war commenced. He tendered his resignation, which was accepted, and then joined the Confederate service, as a Surgeon and served as a medical purveyor during the war, and surrendered under General Joseph Johnson, and is now under parole.

He has willingly taken the amnesty oath, made a part of the statement, (Note: taken 25 Jul 1865 at Camp Nelson) and asks a special pardon of your excellency, and a restoration to the rights of citizenship under the government of the United States. Signed Richard Potts

Pardoned was issued Oct 1865. Richard Potts was listed in the amnesty papers as being fair, blue eyes, light hair, age 36 and 5 foot 10 1/2 inches tall. He was born in Frederick, Maryland and married Eugenia Dunlap, d/o of George W. Dunlap and Nancy Jennings, in Garrard Co on 2 Sep 1861. He died in 1867 in Garrard Co.
