Stith Malone Cain writes in his book: "A History of Our Ford Family..." Whitewater, Wisconsin 1973: William Ford was active in the St. Paul's Parish of Anglican Church during his day. He was chosen Clerk of the Vestry, Episcopal Church, St. Peters Parish on March 5, 1734. In 1744 he was discharged from being Clerk of the Church and Vestry, and in the same year was reinstated as Clerk. He died before October 18, 1746, as the Vestry at it's meeting on that date appropriated money for his widow.

Had Lane Jones lived longer he would have been the Uncle of Martha Dandridge Custis Washington.

William Clopton was a planter in New Kent County, VA in 1759, when he sold a slave to George Washington. He was a Captain in New Kent County Militia. Baptism 4-29-1722 in St. Peter's Parish Church, Later a member of Emmaus Baptist Church, New Kent County, Virginia.

Richmond Enquirer October 14, 1823, The Rev. REUBEN FORD departed this life on the 6th inst. at his residence in the county of Hanover, in the 82nd year of his age, after a distressing affliction of nearly three years. He was among the oldest Baptist preachers in Virginia. Though he is dead, he lives and will live in everlasting remembrance. The subject of this notice was a man of sound judgment; a faithful affectionate and successful preacher of the gospel; eminently given to hospitality; in every duty of domestic relation he has left, we fear, but few equals; and in social life he was a pattern to all his acquaintance. We trust he has fought the good fight, he has kept the faith, and that henceforth there is laid up for him a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, shall give him in that day. This is not the language of panegyric, but what, we doubt not, all who knew this godly man, and know and love the truth, will cordially subscribe to.

From History of Kentucky: Ben. B. Ford was born in Virginia, son of the Rev. Reuben Ford, a Baptist minister; removed to Kentucky in 1811, and settled in Georgetown. He taught a school in 1812, in the house on the west side of the Spring Branch, where the Desha monument now stands. He was a fine scholar, had a large school, a lawyer by profession; he gave up his school and commenced the practice of the law in 1816. He married Miss C. Flournoy, daughter of David Flournoy [and Cassandra Conn], Esq., of Scott county, in 1818; soon after removed to his farm in the county. After a few years, he returned to town, and was Clerk of the County Court from 1827 for many years. In 1837, the Clerk's office on the southwest corner of the public square was burned down, and the records and public papers were burned or badly mutilated. The Circuit Court office was kept in the same building and shared the same fate. Mr. Ford was an early friend and patron of Georgetown College, a Trustee and Secretary of the Board from its organization until 1850; a prominent member of the Baptist church, himself and wife having united with the church in 1827. He died on his farm near town in 1858, his wife having preceded him a few years. They left two children, a son and a daughter.

John Bacon Clopton attended William and Mary College, was a member of the Virginia Senate and a veteran of the War of 1812. He is considered one of Virginia's most prominent Jurists and was serving on the Bench of the Supreme Court of Virginia at the time of his death in 1860. His portrait hangs in the Capitol at Richmond.

Kentucky: A History of the State, Perrin, Battle, Kniffin, 4th ed., 1887 SQUIRE DANIEL FORD was born November 20, 1815, on Kentucky River, Garrard County, where he was reared to manhood; in 1836 he removed to Jessamine County, and in 1864 to Bryantsville, his present place of residence. His father, Timothy Ford, a native of Goochland County, Va., was born, September 16, 1773; removed to Garrard County, Ky., about 1800; was a teacher, a farmer, and a slave owner, an old line Whig, a Baptist, and died November 29, 1839. He was the son of Reuben Ford, of Virginia, born August 19, 1742, a prominent Baptist minister, and a leader in securing liberty to the Baptist denomination in Virginia, a wealthy planter and slave owner who died October 6, 1823. He was the son of William Ford. Reuben Ford married Mary Bowles, in 1770, and their offspring were Reuben, Elizabeth, Timothy, Polly (Hughes), William A., Benjamin B., Daniel and Sally G. (Henly and Mobley). Timothy Ford married in 1793, Betsy W., daughter of Rev. William Webber (born May 21, 1876 [sic], died Aug. 7, 1844) and from this union sprang Reuben, William W., John B. Polly W. (England and Reynolds), Fanny B. (Smith), Eliza (Ryan), Timothy, Benjamin B., Susan B. (deceased), Daniel, and Lewis T. Daniel was first married, January 2, 1838, to Miss Sallie Jewell, who died in 1839. On August 20, 1840, he espoused Miss Sarah H., daughter of Joseph and Martha (Overstreet) Boughn, of Jessamine County (born July 3, 1820) and to them have been born Edward S., Cordelia H. (Combs) and Josephine L. (Jennings). Mr. Ford was engaged for twenty-five years as a carpenter and builder, and eighteen years in mercantile pursuits, with encouraging success. He is now engaged in the undertaking business. He is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church South, and in politics a Prohibitionist. He has served as magistrate and member of the court of claims of Garrard County for eight years.

The Kentucky Leader, Lexington, KY, Friday, February 22, 1895 Mr. Daniel Ford, aged 79, died from paralysis at 11 o’clock last night at 74 High street. He leaves a widow and three children, all of whom are grown and married. Mr. Ford was a native of Garrard county, having removed to this city about two years ago. He was a great uncle of Police Officer James Ford. The funeral will take place from the house at 2 o’clock Saturday

****13 Jan 1902 Mrs. Anna Smith Death of Wife of Daniel Smith Pneumonia Proves Quickly Fatal to a Most Excellant Woman Most of Her Life Spent Here. Mrs. Anna Smith, wife of Daniel F. Smith, died at her home in Gravesville, Monday morning at 7:50, after a brief illness of pneumonia. She had been ill but eight days. During the last few days she had been in a dangerous condition. Monday morning she seemed to rally for a while, then suddenly grew worse and sank rapidly. Mrs. Smith was known among her friends and neighbors as a most excellent Christian womsn, whose love and fielity to her husband and children was deep and unwavering, and whose deed of kindness were everday occurrences. Her death will mean a loss to friends and realives alike, but the grief which it occasions will be palliated by the knowledge of the true womanly life she le. Mrs. Smith's maiden name was Spurlock, and she was born in Wapello County, Iowa, June 4, 1854. [On] May 14, 1871, in Chillicothe, she was married to Daniel F. Smith, and they have ever since made their home here. Early in life she became a member of the Christian Church, her father being a preacher for that church. Her aged father and mother are still living at Batavia, Iowa, but are too old to come here to attend the funeral. Her husband and seven children surviver her. The children are: D. O.; Oliie, Arthur, Ora, Vera, Earle, and Victor. Funeral services will be held at the family residence Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, with Elder J. E. Pardoaner and Rev. Frank W. Allen officiating. Burial will be made at the city cemetery.

FORD BURIED FUNERAL THIS AFTERNOON IN HIS CHURCH IN MARYVILLE Was Teacher in Dickinson County Ten Years and Began His Ministry at Enterprise Maryville, Mo., Sept 25. (Special)---The funeral services for the late Dr. J. S. Ford were held here at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon from the First Methodist church. Dr. Ford who had been pastor of the First M. E. church for the last two and a half years, died during the noon hour Sunday shortly after he and his family had returned from the church services. He had delivered a sermon of unusual power, an inspired message, it seemed, to a large audience, and had greeted the people at the door, as was his custom, at the close of the services, in a very happy manner, but it was noticed by a few that the minister looked tired. Dr. Ford was subject to attacks of neuralgia and on Saturday consulted his physician, Dr. A. B. Allen. A severe pain near the heart yielded to the treatment given him and he got up early Sunday morning and was in a very enthusiastic frame of mind about his sermon, as he had plans to propose to his people what he hoped would result in federated church movement in Maryville that would result in a forward step in every line of activity in the town.
"For the good of Maryville" was the keynote of the sermon. Before leaving for the church he told Mrs. Ford that he had enough for three sermons that morning, and it is thought that he overexerted himself, for he preached with unusual vigor. On going to his home, in the second block south of the church, Dr. Ford was suffering greatly from the pain that had suddenly commenced near his heart, and Dr. Allen was summoned from his office. The doctor came as quick as possible and found his patient walking the floor. He saw that he was very ill, but told him not to be afraid. Dr. Ford replied: "I am not afraid, but this pain," holding his hand over his heart, "is unbearable." Dr. Allen gave a hyperdermic treatment but it was too late. Dr. Ford laid down on the lounge and died in three minutes. He did not speak after saying the the pain was unbearable and passed away so quickly and quietly that the family physician could hardly believe it was true. Dr. Ford is survived by his wife and five children. Stanley and Wesley Ford who are in charge of the U. S. printing plant at Colon, Panama; Miss Alice Ford, a nurse in a hospital at Enid, who arrived in the city Monday noon, and Gladys and Merle Ford, at home. John Scott Ford was born in Grant county, Kentucky, January 27, 1857. When 9 years old he removed to Indiana with his parents and grew to manhood there. He completed a three year course at Hartsville college and located in Kansas in 1881, teaching ten years in Dickinson county and the ward schools of Abilene. He serve two terms as county superintendent of the schools of Dickinson county receiving a majority of 605 votes for the first term and a majority of 1044 for his second term. He was licensed to preach at Abilene in 1891, and served the churches at Enterprise, White City, Sabetha, Holton, coming to Maryville from Holton two and one-half years age. He served the Kansas City, Kan., district as superintendent from 1903 to 1908 and was one of the most prominent ministers in the state.
