Shelby Tipton

HAMILTON — Shelby Tipton was a Christian man who attended Eaton Full Gospel Church for the past 12 years, said Glenora Tipton, his wife of 49 years.

“He was a good father, good husband and he loved to worship God,” his wife said.

Tipton died Tuesday, Feb. 10, at Huntington Court. He was 81.

He was born the son of Isaac and Emma Lou (Crow) Tipton on June, 1, 1922 in Estill County, Ky.

He enjoyed horses and farming. He and his wife used to raise horses and they lived on a farm for 27 years, she said.

A press operator at General Motors for 31 years, Tipton also owned a mobile home and enjoyed camping.

“He worked awfully hard,” his wife said. “They thought a lot of him at General Motors. They said he was the best press operator there.”

Aside from his wife, he is survived by three sons, Jimmy, Michael and Herschel Tipton; a daughter, Alberta Mullins; two sisters, Overy Feibinger and Elizabeth McMannany; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Yvonne Tipton; three brothers, Eulys, Dave and Earl Tipton; and four sisters, Mamie Ashcraft, Buford Newton, Grace Hensley and Zula Lacey.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Ave.

Funeral services at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Ernest Benge officiating.

Burial will follow in Spencer Cemetery in Beatyville, Ky.

Shelby Tipton

Shelby G. Tipton, age 81, of Hamilton, passed away at Huntington Court on Tuesday, February 10, 2004, at 7:55 p.m. He was born in Estill County, Kentucky, on June 1, 1922, the son of Isaac and Emma Lou (Crow) Tipton. He was a press operator at Fisher Body for 31 years, retiring in 1980. Shelby was a member of Eaton Road Full Gospel Church. On June 18, 1954, in Winchester, Kentucky, he married Glenora Miller.

He is survived by his wife, Glenora Tipton of Hamilton; three sons, Jimmy S. Tipton and his wife Nancy, Michael R. Tipton and his wife Nancy and Herschel Tipton and his wife Sheila, all of Hamilton; a daughter, Alberta Mullins and her husband Paul of Hamilton; nine grandchildren, Charlie, Michelle, Kimberly, Jimmy, Ronnie, Michael, David, Dawn, and James; fifteen great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Overy Feibinger and her husband Harry of Somerville and Elizabeth McMannany of Trenton. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Yvonne Tipton; three brothers, Eulys Tipton, Dave Tipton and Earl Tipton; and four sisters, Mamie Ashcraft, Buford Newton, Grace Hensley and Zula Lacey.

Funeral service will be held at Brown Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Saturday, February 14, 2004, at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Ernest Benge of Eaton Road Full Gospel Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Spencer Cemetery, Beattyville, Kentucky. Visitation will be held on Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
