Garland Doans

Garland Doans, age 80, of Okeana, passed away at Fort Hamilton Hospital on Monday, December 1, 2003, at 8:15 p.m. He was born in Estill County, Kentucky, on September 8, 1923, the son of Elbert and Mattie (Bicknell) Doans. Garland was a veteran of World War II with the United States Army from 1943 to 1945. He was employed as a welder and was the founder of Doansco Welding Company, retiring in 1980. On November 19, 1947, he married Dorothy Ann Lamm who preceded him in death in 1998.

He is survived by two sons, Garland David Doans and his wife Kim of Okeana and Rick Doans and his wife Denise of Hamilton; one daughter, Kathy Gawrych and her husband Ray of Hamilton; one brother, Pete Miller and his wife Pete of Hamilton; one sister, Emily Wilson of Louisville, Kentucky; four grandchildren, David Lee Doans, Sarah Ditmyer, Chase Ditmyer and Austin Doans; and two great-grandchildren, Corey and Camryn. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, June Doan.

Funeral service will be held at the Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum Chapel, on Thursday, December 4, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Jacob Flannery, Pastor of Franklin Street Baptist Church, officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the cemetery mausoleum chapel. Brown Dawson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
