Fern Hill Cemetery

FERN HILLS CEMETERY
Daviess County Kentucky-Owensboro, Ky.

Judy & Jerry Bailey and Linda & Michael Julius walked and documented this cemetery, April 13, 2001. [Judy & Linda are sisters] Additional visits to clean up the cemetery have uncovered fallen markers.

This cemetery is about 2 miles out Hwy. 60 W. from Owensboro going toward Henderson. It is located in Bon Harbor Hills, behind Rudy Pond, on Hwy. 60.

Vines and weeds are destroying tombstones; many have fallen over and only found by stepping on them. There are many more graves noticeable that have no tombstones. There are possibly a total of 60 - 75 gravesites.

This cemetery is important to the history of Daviess County because of the people that worked and lived in this area. They were coal miners and farmers, and lived, worked and raised their families here before and through the depression. Some of the farms and coal mines they worked at belonged to the McNulty’s, Rudy’s, & Moore’s, to name a few. Our own Grandparents didn’t move from this area till the late 1950’s.
