MOSES HELM’S WILL

 

      In the name of God Amen, I Moses Helm, of the County of Butler and State of Kentucky, being weak in body but sound in mind, and calling to mind my mortality knowing I have to die, do make this my last and only Will and Testament, to wit:

First: I request my body to be buried in a decent Christian like manner.  As to what property I possess after my just debts being paid I wish disposed of in the following manner.  My wife Nancy Helm is to remain in possession of my entire plantation during her natural life.  I also give her the following slaves- Creed – Sam – Cook and her children during her natural life.  Also as many of the stock of every kind as she may wish to keep together with the wagon the young yoke of oxen – three work beasts and one colt with as many gear and tools of every kind as will be necessary for her to carry on the farm.  As much provision provender and as will be necessary for the use of the family the ensuing year.

I have given my son James W. Helm $300 with interest from the time he was 21 years old, up to the time received it.  Also gave my son John B. Helm
