  The man listed as James
Bales is my forebear, except
his name was Bates. The
daughter Pearl (Purlie) was
my paternal grandmother having
married Charles Ghee (Gee was
the original spelling) around
1897 in Ironton, Ohio. I think
that James Bates came to Boyd
County around 1867 from Ark.
to get into the iron ore
business.The town of Batesville
in that state was named afer the
family. He married Susan Bailey.
