Records transcribed from Kentucky Troops in The War of 1812, A. C. Quisenberry, 1912, compiled by Marvin Allen, June 2, 2018.

Records show Kentucky supplied 25,010 soldiers for this sometimes forgotten war, more than all other states combined. In fact, 62% of the men who died during the war were from Kentucky.

According to Quisenberry in his book Kentucky in the War of 1812, page 52, the 28th Regiment, United States Infantry was commanded by Colonel Thomas Dye Owings of Bath County, and was organized 29 Jan 1813.

After the war, it was consolidated 17 May 1815, with the 1st, 17th, 19th, 24th and 29th regiments to form the 3rd Regiment of Infantry, United States Army.
