  • 1775 Elias Tobin made a small clearing and built a cabin.
  • 1780 Moses Sharp settled on Bald Eagle Creek.
  • 1783 Hugh Sidwell, Thomas Clark, and a Mr. Bollard settled on Slate Creek, at the mouth of Naylor's Branch.
  • 1787 Peter Cassidy built a station, on Salt Well Branch.
  • 1789 Jacob Myers started construction on the Bourbon (Slate) Furnace.
  • 1790 Jacob Myers sold out to John Cockey Owings, Willis Green, Christopher Greenup and Walter Beall.
  • 1791 Peter Fort settled about two miles northeast of Morgan's Station in Montgomery County. John Troutman built a station about three-fourths of a mile east of Fort's.
  • 1792 Hansford Station was built by Thomas Hansford in the fall of 1792, half way between Fort's and Troutman's.
  • 1792 The Bourbon Iron Furnace began producing iron.
  • 1794 The Springfield Presbyterian Church established. Elijah Summers established the Blue Ash (Bethel) Baptist church. Sam Hanna established the Bald Eagle Baptist church.
  • 1796 Col. Thomas Hart bought Mud Lick Springs from William Ramsey, renamed it Olympian Springs, and soon built a hotel there.
  • 1803 The first stage coach line in Kentucky ran from Lexington to Olympian Springs.
  • 1811 The Kentucky Legislature formed Bath County out of Montgomery Co. January 13, 1811. Catlett's Flat was selected as the first county seat, but within months the seat was moved to Owingsville.
  • 1811 Thomas Dye Owings took over ownership of the Bourbon Iron Furnace.
  • 1813 Jacob Warner built the first courthouse. It was brick and stood in the middle of Main St.
  • 1814 A public well was dug by William Castigan for $120.
  • 1814 Sharpsburg was established.
  • 1814 King Louis Phillip of France was the guest of Thomas Owings for 18 months.
  • 1817 Ellenor Gillespie was hung for murdering her supposed husband, Sheriff John Hawkins.
  • 1817 Bethel was established.
  • 1820 Wyoming was established.
  • 1831 The courthouse was rebuilt.
  • 1836 The first pike in the county was built by the state from Owingsville to the Big Sandy River.
  • 1844 Polksville was established.
  • 1849 The first macadamized road in the county was built between Sharpsburg and Bethel.
  • 1863 A battle was between Confederates and Union troops was fought at Olympian Springs.
  • 1864 The courthouse was accidentally burned down by Union troops.
  • 1868 The present courthouse was built.
  • 1870 Reynoldsville was established.
  • 1872 The first two common school districts were created.
  • 1876 A mysterious meat shower ocurred over the farm of Allen Crouch, 3 miles south of Olympia Springs.
  • 1879 A weekly newspaper The Owingsville Outlook began publication.
  • 1882 The Elizabethtown, Lexington & Big Sandy R.R. was extended through Bath County.
  • 1927 U.S. Route 60 was built through Bath County.
  • 1985 The C & O (former Elizabethtown, Lexington & Big Sandy R.R.) ceased operations on the railway line through Bath County.
