JESSE & JOSEPH HOGG Bill In Chancery vs Children & Heirs of Reuben Hogg
filed 10 July 1844 Case No 1752 - Barren Circuit Ct, KY
... JESSEE T. and JOSEPH HOGG, would respectfully represent... that on the 27th July 1839 one REUBEN HOGG, the father of your orators departed this life. A few days before his death the sd Reuben made a non-cupative will which was duly proven and admitted to record in th eoffice of the clerk of the Barren County court at it's Sept Term 1839... the testator directed that all his estate ... was devised among all his... children except BENJAMIN GOSNELL who had married a daughter of sd testator , who was to receive no part of sd estate ...shortly after the death of their sd father, they were ... appointed admrs ... of the estate of the sd REUBEN HOGG... took upon themselves the admisistration of sd estate .... since the time towit, ... sd MARY HOGG the widow and devisee of sd REUBEN departed this life - after which your orators sold the personal estate of sd Reuben which had been in the possession of sd MARY .... sd REUBEN at the time of his death owned in fee simplat... two tracts of land both of which are situated in this county, one tractk containing about 85 acres and the other about 30 acres ....The following are the only Children and heirs of sd REUBEN deceased: JOHN W. HOGG, OZIAS HOGG, SUSANAH BRIDGES (late SUSANAH HOGG) who intermarried with JOSEPH BRIDGES, NANCY HAWKINS (late NANCEY HOGG) who intermarried with JOHN HAWKINS, NAOMY BESHERS (late NAOMY HOGG) who intermarried with JOHN BESHERS, JOSEPH, REUBEN, NAOMY, SARAH, CAROLINE and SUSANAH GOSNELL, MARY HAWKINS (formerly GOSNELL) who intermarried with JOHN HAWKINS, the last seven to MARY HAWKINS, JOSEPH, REUBEN, NAOMY, SARAH, CAROLINE and SUSNAHA GOSNELL are the children and heirs of SARAH GOSNELL deceased who was one of the children of sd REUBEN HOGG and who intermarried with one BENJAMIN GOSNEE and afterwoard... departed this liveing leaving the last named seven children...
Your orators would represnt...it would best comport with the interst of the parties... that the land mentioned should be sold rather than divided....Your orators ... charge that the above named BENJAMIN GOSNELL received form the sd REUBEN HOGG...by way of advancement ... $500 which is greater sum than will be the distributable shar of the the ... heirs of sd Reuben; they thereofre charge that the sd BENJAMIN GOSNEEL nor his ... children the heirs of his wife SARAH ar not entitled to receive any part of the estate of sd REUBEN HOGG.......Joseph HOGG was shown to reside in MO

Henry Childers Answer & C. 29 Jan 1846. States that he knows nothing of his own knowledge of the matter and the things in Complainants Bill, but supposes that they are true, and so far as he is concerned admits them to be true. Charges that JESSE HAWKINS who intermarried with NANCY, a daughter of REUBEN HOGG, deceased, had purchased of JESSE HOGG and OZIAS HOGG their undivided interest in the whole of their Father's estate. Charges that he, Henry Childers on 15th day of Sept 1845 purchased from HAWKINS his own undivided interest in the estate as well as the interest which JESSE HAWKINS had purchased from JESSE & OZIAS HOGG. That also, on the same day he purchased from JOSEPH BRIDGES who had intermarried with SUSANNAH a daughter of the said REUBEN HOGG deceased his undivided interest in the estate. And on the same day he Henry Childres, purchased from JOSEPH HOGG his interest in the estate. That Jesse Hawkins, transferred the same directly to him, and makes theses statements as a cross bill, etc.....
